6 Travel Destinations Famous on Social Media
Let’s be honest, all of us follow at least one travel account and dream of visiting some of the gorgeous destinations showcased, I definitely have. Some places look absolutely amazing and have caught the attention of travelers across the globe, now on many bucket lists.
Let’s take a look at the hottest travel destinations made famous on social media in 2016!
Pig Beach, Exuma, Bahamas
It’s unknown how the family of now over 2o pigs came to call the island home. Some say they survived a shipwreck and swam to shore, living on the uninhabited island, which has three natural fresh water springs. However it happened, the internet is in love with these adorable feral pigs and the unusual experience of snorkeling and spending the day soaking up the sunshine with them.
Cappadocia, Turkey
Photos of hot air balloons over the Göreme National Park and the Rock Sites of Cappadocia continue to pop up on social media and I can’t help but give them all a like. This UNESCO World Heritage Site in central Turkey is like a dream world, the landscape has eroded over millions of years and the soft rock has been carved into, creating an extensive network of tunnels and chambers which look spectacular at sunset.
Antelope Canyon, Arizona, USA
Feel like playing real life Indiana Jones? This beautiful yet eerie canyon system is the perfect backdrop for a photo shoot and on many hiker’s bucket lists. Known to be quite crowded, timing is everything. After descending a long ladder into the slot canyon, visitors are able to view the colorful sandstone walls and spectacular beams of light from within, while meandering on a short half mile loop hike.
Santorini, Greece
The terraced white buildings rising up from the sea create a spectacular vista in addition to amazing infinity pools often showcased on Instagram and restaurants where every seat has a panoramic view. The island’s world famous sunset and grilled seafood is to die for. Shop owners told me it’s best to visit during the off season like I did since that the main walking path is normally at a standstill during summer.
Plitvice Lakes National Park, Croatia
Made famous by Instagram star Jessica Stein and many others, park visitors are able to swim and take small rowboats in the lakes. The 16 terraced lakes are joined by waterfalls, all within a sandstone canyon. Boardwalks over the water connect with hiking trails allowing visitors to see the 300 square kilometer park, the most famous tourist destination in the country.
Banaue Rice Terraces, Philippines
This 2,000 year old terrace system, passed down from generation to generation is another UNESCO World Heritage Site and National Cultural Treasure, located in a remote area in the Ifugao region of northern Luzon island. The area also boasts beautiful hiking, waterfalls, natural springs and breathtaking panoramic views of the terraces from above.
All great bucket list destinations. I would go for the pigs. So unique. Great article!
